MTN Nigeria has unveiled process how subscribers can transfer data from their active data balance and Airtime with family and friend. The package is know as MTN’s Gift Data service and MTN Share.
The MTN’s Gift Data service can be use to send and buy data bundles for your other smart phones, modems and tablets and all customers on the MTN network can access the Data Gifting service.
The amount of data you can transfer at time are 50MB, 100MB, 200MB, and 500MB. However, you must ensure you have at least 50MB in your data balance after every transfer for your transfer to be successful.
However, the maximum number of times you can transfer is twice daily, the cumulative amount you can transfer at a given time and in a day is 1GB.Also You can only buy and transfer data from your daily, weekly, and monthly bundle plans, but, you shall not be able to gift from an XtraValue bundle
How to Gift/share MTN Data
To gift or share MTN data, you can use the MTN Data Gifting service. Here’s how:
- Dial *321# on your MTN line.
- Choose “Gift Data” or “Share Data” from the menu.
- Provide the MTN number of the person you want to gift or share data with.
- Select the data bundle or specify the amount of data you wish to share.
- Follow the prompts to complete the process, and the data will be transferred instantly.
Transfer Data on MTN:
To transfer data on MTN using their Data Share service, here are the steps:
- Dial *321# on your MTN line.
- From the menu, select 3 “Transfer from Data Balance.”
- Input the MTN number of the person you’d like to send data to.
- Choose the amount of data to transfer (e.g., 50MB, 100MB, or more).
Buy Data for a Friend from MTN:
To buy data for a friend on MTN, you can use the MTN Data Gifting service. Here’s how:
- Dial *321# on your MTN line.
- From the menu, choose the option to gift data.
- Provide the MTN number of the person you want to buy data for.
- Select the data bundle you wish to purchase for your friend.
- Follow the prompts to complete the process. The cost will be deducted from your airtime balance, and the data will be credited to your friend’s account.
Alternatively, you can use the MyMTN App:
- Log in with your MTN number.
- Navigate to the “Data Gifting” section.
- Enter the recipient’s number and select the data bundle to gift.
Request Data from a Friend:
Don’t get stranded or go without Data on your phone, you can now request for data from that Special friend. Simply dial *312*7*3#
View Pending Request: To check all your existing requests. Simply dial *312*7*4#
How do I check the balance of my gifted bundle?
You will be able to check your data bundle balance via the following channels:
1. SMS: Texting 2 to 323
2. USSD: dialing *323*4#
3. myMTN App

How to transfer or share MTN airtime using SMS
- Send an SMS with Transfer, Recipient’s Number, Amount and PIN to 321. For example, you can send an SMS with ‘Transfer 08031234567 1500 1234’ to 321.
- Upon sending this message, you will receive an SMS asking you to confirm that you want to make the transfer by sending an SMS with ‘YES’ to 321.
How to transfer airtime using USSD
- You can transfer MTN Airtime by Dialing *321*Recipient’s Number*Amount*PIN# on your phone and then click on send/press OK. For example, dial*321*08031234567*1500*1234# and then send/OK. When the transfer has been completed, you will receive a message informing you that the transfer was successful.
How To Change your MTN Share PIN:
To Change your MTN Share PIN:
- Send an SMS with your Default PIN New PIN New PIN to 321. For example, send an SMS with ‘0000 1234 1234’ to 321.
- You can also change your PIN by dialing *321*Default PIN*New PIN* New PIN# on your phone and then click on send/press ok. For example, dial *321*0000*1234*1234# and then send/OK.
Immediately you change your PIN using any of the options above, you will receive an SMS informing you that your PIN was changed successfully
How to Gift MTN Data
It’s easy to access the service. You can dial *312*7# on your phone, use the myMTN NG App, send an SMS keyword, or dial direct shortcodes for the respective options.
How to TransferMTN Data:
You can now transfer data from your existing data balance to your friends and family. Simply dial *321*Phone number*Data amount#
or, text Transfer<space>Phone number<space>Data amount and to 321.
The maximum amount you can transfer in a day is 2GB.
How to Buy MTNData for a Friend:
To buy MTN data for a friend, you can use the MTN Data Gifting feature. Here’s how:
- Dial *321# on your MTN line.
- From the menu, choose “Gift Data” or “Data Bundle for Others.”
- Provide your friend’s MTN phone number.
- Select the data bundle you want to purchase for them from the options provided.
- Follow the prompts to complete the purchase. The cost of the data bundle will be deducted from your airtime balance.
Alternatively, you can use the MyMTN App:
- Log into the app using your MTN number.
- Navigate to “Data Gifting” or “Buy Data for Others.”
- Enter the recipient’s number and select a data plan to gift.
