Enugu city, the city on hills is known for different thing such as education and tourism not information and communication technology (ICT) services. The city has come a long way, from the days of coal mining during the colonial times to the city that is the administrative headquarters of the defunct Eastern Region. The city is resilient, but that narrative would be changing for good as TechX opens office in the city, located in the prestigious and serene Independence Layout, the serene location would be the icing that would ginger and motivate the young ones to be part of this epoch making project. The incubation hub is said to be “one of its kind” in the South Eastern region of the country and poised to mint new programmers and ICT geeks from the region.
Understanding the dynamics of today’s world has prompted the founders to bring the ICT facility that would build capacity in the zone known for either manufacturing or commerce. With open hands and hearts, the opening of TechX Hub was well attended, demonstrating that the youths are eager for a change. With competent hands like Tony Ojobo, a seasoned tech enthusiast and an ex-Public Affairs Director of the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) to steer and direct the activities of the nascent hub, he said that
“In realization of these challenges, our organization decided to set up an ICT Innovation Hub in Enugu to contribute our quota towards addressing this problem in the Southeast ecosystem. The level of unemployment in this region is frightening and something has to be done urgently to address the trend.”
He also added “At TechX, we shall create a platform for people with ideas to incubate, start-ups, business developers, coders, programmers and techies to perfect and scale up their innovations through a structured mentoring process, training and knowledge development programs Our teeming youths can focus their creative energies more positively with a platform such as TechX Innovation Hub to give them a head -start in life.”
