The time of the year that Muslims embark on fasting for sometime following the sighting of moon. Muslims are encouraged to be peace loving and reach out to other members of the society. Having this in mind , the president of Nigeria , Muhammadu Buhari has encouraged all the Muslim faithfuls to build harmony with fellow Nigerians.
Speaking to the media, the president said “I urge all Muslims to use the Ramadan fast to build harmony with fellow citizens of other faiths. We must uphold the values of tolerance and mutual coexistence, and leave no room whatsoever for hatred and violence. I pray for Allah’s continued peace and progress for Nigeria.”
This is coming at a period that the North part of the country is immersed in various types of criminality from the terrorists activities in North East, Banditry in the North West and Herdsmen challenges and killings in the North Central. With over 70% of the regions population Muslim, this message has driven home the need for harmony and peace to be, especially in the region.
