The prevalent crimes and vulnerabilities associated with the use of cyber space has necessitated the National Information Technology Development Agency, (NITDA) to embark on awareness and sensitisation workshop on Cyber Security across the country, the NITDA Director General, Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, FNCS,FBCS,FIIM has said.
The DG stated that although the use of internet and accompanied devices have made life easier for us but the challenges associated with it has made awareness and sensitisation on how to stay safe online become imperative.
He informed that Nigerians are falling victims of cyber crimes because of lack of awareness adding that if Nigerians are adequately empowered with prerequisite knowledge on how to safeguard themselves online, the activities of the cyber criminal would be curtailed.
He urged the participants to share the knowledge gained at the end of the event with other people in order to keep everyone secured online.
The DG disclosed this during the a Cyber Security Awareness and Sensitization Workshop at Owerri, Imo State capital through the Ag. Director Cyber Security, Dr Dimie Wariowei
In his goodwill message, the Permanent Secretary, Enugu State Ministry of Science and Technology, Mr. Charles Maduekwe thanked the management of NITDA for organising the event in South East, and implored the Agency to organise the event in all states of the federation in order to educate citizens on how to protect themselves from the activities of cyber criminals.
His Royal Highness, Eze C.N. Eze, Ezeolia of Ndikpa Aboh, Onuimo Local Government in his goodwill message informed that the issue of cyber crime is so rampant in Imo State, “and with this kind of awareness campaign, I believe the activities of the cyber criminals would be mitigated, he said”
