I’m the founder of CKDigital. Here’s my story (short version) CKDIGITAL started as a freelance business for me about about 7 years ago. It started as a side hustle. I honestly didn’t think I had what it took to run a business full time. What I knew perfectly, was that I loved design, and was passionate about it. As long as I was on my laptop designing one thing or the other, I was satisfied, whether I had eaten or not.
I did a 3-month internship at a web design firm, then started working part-time at a church, while building my ‘side business’. During this time, I had launched a simple portfolio website and put the 4 projects I had worked on. These were websites I had done for free or at very cheap prices. One for my twin sister, one for her friend, one for my friend, one for my church.
Little by little, a few people started noticing my work. They liked the quality of the designs. Some of these people referred me to others, and I started getting more projects. I also learned SEO, and got my website to rank on the first page of Google. More people started getting in touch. It was exciting!
At a point, I couldn’t handle the demand, so I quit my job then faced CKDIGITAL full time. My mum allowed me convert the small store at her supermarket to my office. CKDIGITAL now had ‘Head Office’.
I hired my first team member, someone I had met during NYSC. He didn’t know how to design websites, but he was willing to learn. I taught him, and we started working together.
Fast forward to today: we are currently a team of 18 (awesome) people, and have worked on over 400 projects.
My journey has not been easy, but my passion has kept me going.
Now, it’s not just about design; it’s about helping people succeed — my team members, our clients, our friends and fans, and everyone else that we can.
I have not arrived. Those that know me well know that I’m still hustling to grow the business and make it more impactful.
We are not where we want to be, but we are far from where we used to be.
