The vision to reach 1,000,000 programmers across tertiary schools in Nigeria led to the creation of Codefest Nigeria as a platform to give software developers the opportunity to solve national problems/issues using coding (computer programming). The grand ceremony was hosted by the prestigious University of Abuja (knowledge partner)

Abuja was invaded by hackers who made it to the finals to code in the 2 days Hackathon event with their disruptive solutions on the 27th and 28th of July 2018. Total number of teams was 14 out of the lot. From diverse locations in Nigeria; University of Gombe, University of Ebonyi, Bayero University Kano, Afe Babalola University, University of Abuja (host) makes for it a national agenda indeed.

Thanks to the media houses support received to capture the moments included the widest coverage media in Africa (NTA international), Nishani TV, The Sun Newspaper, The Nation, Daily Trust and News Agency of Nigeria. Even the setbacks encountered during preparation did not deter the ceremony.
Continuing the hallmark of the first held at the University of Lagos in Season1, the season 2 was not much different, Codefest Nigeria, the organiser of the Hackathon event. Other activities alongside the Hackathon were the boot camp training, CEO Pavilion, placement drive, and exhibition.

The Event brought together technology enthusiast, partners, CEOs, media, academic stakeholders and leaders of industry, that all participated during the CEO Pavilion segment. Amongst them are; The Vice Councilor of University Abuja (Prof M.U. Adikwu) who was ably represented by the Dean of ICT (Professor Olumide Owolabi; Mrs Stella Odu Thomas, CEO Techniseed; Wisdom Kwati, Karabow Nigeria Ltd/Kwati Smart City, Jumoke Oduwole, CEO,amongst others

The Panel of judges notably influencers in the tech space such as Mohammed Jega, Founder Arewa startup; Mr Kenneth Okereafor, Security& Communication AGM NHIS; Mary Igbazua, Deputy Manager North East Humanitarian Innovation Hub; Vinod Kaurani, CEO Tripberry Ltd; Andrew Abu, President Young Innovators of Nigeria led by the Chief Mentor of CODEFEST NIGERIA – Mr Babajide

The boot campers were not left out as they got a 2-day intensive training powered by WOW Innovations, leaving the event with coding skills to solve problems.

The second season of the Hackathon dealt on categories like Health, Finance, Education, transportation, Interaction, Politics, amongst others. Massive solutions were created that will indeed transform this generation. The future is IT and Codefest Nigeria has seen the need to start now.

The 3 teams that emerged winners of the Codefestng Hackathon season 2 were:
Team UniAbuja from Abuja developed an e-waste system, using Artifical Intelligence tool in the Health sector
Team Speedware from Ebonyi State University developed a teach app for kids in the Educational sector.
While a Plagiarism Detection Software, in the Politics sector was developed by ABUPROGRAMMERS from Ahmadu Bello University, Kaduna

This testimony of Codefest NIGERIA Season2 is sure to live on as they plan to continue on their quest to achieve their mission and also expanding into the international level.

Indeed another milestone has been set for digital democracy by the pioneers of DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION – raving applause to the organizing team of officials, ambassadors and volunteers.
