” DIGITAL GIRLS CLUB 2019″ NITDA COLLABORATES WITH MIN. OF COMMUNICATION TO DRIVE ICT AWARENESS IN GIRLS SCHOOLS

Information and communication technology (ICT) is the way to go in today’s ever changing world. As we tilt towards the fourth industrial revolution, Federal Ministry of Communications and the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) are doing all they can you equip, educate and intervene in the appreciation of ICT and prepare the youth for the next level of industrial revolution.

The Digital Girls Club 2019, has demonstrated that NITDA as an agency is gender sensitive and understand the impact women make in the society. Dedicating a day to showcase the awareness in the ICT, the agency has over time intervene in the area of capacity building and skill acquisition to prepare the young girls for a greater future, especially in the ICT space.

Digital Girls Club, 2019 ICT Girls Empowerment Competition with themed “My ICT Innovation: ICT for SDGs”, organised by the Federal Ministry of Communications.

The event was held at National Press Centre, Radio House, Garki, Abuja and had in attendance Students, Mentors from both the public and private sectors.

Queen Amina College came tops as the winner got fiver hundred thousand naira for the ICT empowerment program, while Government Day secondary School was the runner up. Other schools that took part in the competition went home with consolation prizes. The program and a testament and a demonstration of the government effort to change the perception and narrative of girls especially in the North and encourage them to appreciate technology, more especially ICT.
