Lately, the issue of Herdsmen has been contentious issue in the country with a lot of skirmishes between the farmers and Herdsmen as it has been alleged. The federal government has waded in to open a reserve where the Herdsmen would graze in selected states of the federation, though a lot of states in the Southern part of Nigeria especially the South East and Niger Delta has rejected this idea.

In response to the current realities , Anambra state, a state in the Eastern part of Nigeria with little landmass has initiated a modern diary farming in response to the RUGA settlement scheme proposed by the Federal Government of Nigeria. A move that the indigenes lauded. The state is supporting the indigenous cattle farms and dairy products traders. This was demonstrated by the financial grants given to the private farm establishment in the state .

Speaking on the scheme, James Eze, the media and publicity official to the state government said “While the RUGA Debate rages on, Governor Obiano of Anambra State has empowered Wonder Farms Limited, Umunze to commence the rearing of Efi Igbo in commercial quantity.”

Ikechukwu Anarado, an elated indigene said ” Courageous effort and great result! A Governor and his people!

First wondered if that was efi Igbo, but settled with the joyful conclusion that that home brand offers the people huge mass of healthy beef profitably in competition with what the northern cows offer.

Gov Obiano raising the stake in local content development. Let the efi come from wherever, our indigenous farmers could duly adopt them to maximum productivity, leveraging on Gov Willie Obiano’s enablement.”

Onyebuchi Dike added that “All we are interested in is a working state with all the pillars and enablers performing. Agriculture have really improved under Gov Willie Obiano and this is inferential to that.”

It is believed that with this move from Willie Obiano, the governor of Anambra State, It is believed that this would be an agro revolution in the state and the revival of the African dwarf cow known as “efi igbo”

According to Chika Ibeneme “This is made in Anambra Cattle (Efi Igbo). This cattle was bred at Eagle Farms Limited, Umuchu.

Eagle Farms is being financed through Anambra State Government micro credit programme powered by Anambra State Small Business Agency (ASBA).”

“The farmer (Chief Oparaeke) brought this to exhibit today alongside other farm produce at Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka during the flag-off of 2019 farming season in Anambra State by Governor Willie Obiano”, he concluded
