I commend the leadership of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly for their commitment to youth development in the state by passing the Akwa Ibom Youth Development Fund (AKYDF) Bill into Law. I was so happy when I read on Facebook from Mr. Kufre Okon who is the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker AKHA that the bill has been passed into law. I had to personally take to my Facebook timeline to specially thank Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke for passing the AKYDF Bill into Law.
The bill is seeking the implementation of a sustainable youth policy framework in the state and the youths in the State are positioned to benefit from the Law when implemented. According to the Speaker Rt. Hon. (Barr) Onofiok Luke, the bill “proposes the establishment of the Akwa Ibom Youth Development Fund which ultimate aim is to create jobs and evolve greater opportunities for our teeming youths”.
The AKDF Law is one of the vital tools that can help His Excellency (Deacon) Udom Gabriel Emmanuel finish well as he just got reelected as the Governor of Akwa Ibom State for the next four years. Permit me to use this medium in congratulating His Excellency on his success at the polls. The impact of this law will be huge as it will directly help reduce youth crisis and unemployment which has been an issue in Nigeria. National Bureau of Statistics had it that Akwa Ibom is the second state in Nigeria with the highest unemployment rate. Thank you to Youth Alive Foundation and other Civil Society Organisations for being proactive in proposing this bill.
Akwa Ibom young people are very industrious and they are doing excellently well wherever they are. Those at home lack established platforms and channels to sustainable growth but the AKYDF bill if professionally implemented is a bundle of opportunities.
I am working directly with young people and I know a couple of them who have developed prototypes of their ideas but cannot launch or scale because of challenges the AKYDF law is coming to solve. I see Akwa Ibom birthing many successful entrepreneurs in the coming years, I see sustainable growth and better wellbeing of our people if this is professionally handled.
Finally, I urged the State Government to take a critical look at all the relevant sectors (Agriculture, Technology, Media, Commerce, Health, Education etc ) as they work towards the implementation.
